Food insecurity continues to be a pressing issue on California’s Central Coast. Across San Benito, Monterey, and Santa Cruz counties, thousands of families are struggling to put food on the table each week. That’s why the Community Food Bank of San Benito is proud to partner with KSBW 8, Food Bank for Monterey County, and Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz County for a vital community event: Feeding Families on the Central Coast.
On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, KSBW will host a special telethon and community food drive to raise critical funds for local families in need. From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., viewers can tune in, learn more about the impact of food insecurity in our region, and most importantly—donate to help feed our neighbors.
As the cost of living continues to rise and support for government food assistance programs remains limited, food banks like ours are being asked to do more with fewer resources. The situation is urgent.
“We’re very efficient with donations,” said Patricia Jaquez, Interim Executive Director for the Community Food Bank of San Benito. “One dollar translates to three meals. Right now, there are match programs in place that will amplify the power of a donation.”
Every gift—large or small—can be the reason a child doesn’t go to bed hungry, a senior can afford both groceries and medicine, or a working parent can put nutritious food on the table after a long day. When you donate, 100% of your contribution goes directly to the Feeding Families on the Central Coast campaign, benefiting residents of San Benito County.
“No one should have to worry about having enough to eat,” said KSBW 8’s General Manager Laura Williamson. “KSBW 8’s Feeding Families is helping to change that.”
